Pick-up 10. PAIRADOC’S BACK IN THE GAME, “Ray,” BLM, Tracey Jensen

Ray and Tracey came to the line at 11:29 am

LF (Left Flyer) -  Through the pond on his line to the right bird - turned left to take the land bridge - continues on to the fall area of the Left Flyer bird - a tight zig zag and he got it.

R (Right) - Entered the pond slightly right of the last time - crossed over and drives the area  - goes left across the land bridge to head back to the left - handler stops him. Dog is picked up.

8. HOLYOKE’S CARBON COPY ON THE BAYOU, “Quinn,” BLF, Reid Jones

Quinn and Reid came to the line at 11:18 am

R (Right) -  Down the terrace and left of the pond - came in to the area around the pond and scooped her bird!

LF (Left Flyer) - Nice initial line that carried her into the water and across the land bridge - great line across the next water too and up to the bird!

7. OUTBACK’S ALL-OUT GLADIATOR, “Spartacus,” BLM, Robbie Knutson

Spartacus and Robbie came to the line at 11:10 am

R (Right) -  Swam across the pond on a nice angle - passed the guns on the left - had 1 circle and then under the willow for his bird.

LF (Left Flyer) - Into the near corner of the pond - out on point 1 - over and back into the water - over the point 2  - back into the pond - out on the far shore - ran to the road - came around the flyer guns to the fall area - extended hunt in the area but he never left it and he got his bird.

2. SEASIDE’S FAMILY TRADITION, “Hank,” BLM, Wayne Jensen

Hank and Wayne came to the line at 10:59 am

R (Right) -  Into the pond and swam towards the guns - out -  past the guns -1 turn under the willow tree and he got his bird.

LF (Left Flyer) - Ran out part way on the 1st point - into the water - over the end of the 2nd point - out of pond in front of the guns - had a hunt deep to the road back and forth for an extended hunt in the area - got it. It was a very short bird.

First test dog up for the 10th series was Tru and handler Don Fregelette  ... Tru came to the line at 10:33 am

R (Right) -  Into the pond - swam tot he far side - out to the will tree - a couple tight turns and she scooped it up!

LF (Left Flyer) - Into the near right corner of the pond - over the land bridge past the point - into the fall area and her bird. Very nice.

Next test dog up was Cy with handler Robby Bickley ... Cy came to the line at 10:40 am

R (Right) -  Into the pond - out to the left of the willow tree - turned right and went straight to the bird.

LF (Left Flyer) - Over land to the right of the 1st pond - into the 2nd pond - over the island - swam to the far shore - got out and hooked the gunners - 1 turn under the arc and a left to the bird. Got it.

This test is taking approximately 7-9 minutes per dog to complete.

10th Series Test Description

10th Series – Water Double with an Out of Order Flyer

The 10th Series of the 2025 National Derby is located at Swede's Mountain. We had a rain delay earlier this morning for the parade, but we are now ready for the final 17 Teams competing today to show us some of their best work of the event! They have completed 9 challenging tests, and today will be the ultimate challenge to decide who will be our champion!

The mat for this test sits on a hillside facing North. 

Bird # 1 is a Drake Flyer. The gunners will throw and then shoot the drake from left to right, landing approximately 300 yards from the mat. The dogs must go down a long field and enter the right corner of the 1st pond - go over a land bridge and then enter the 2nd pond from the near right corner and swim to the far shore. This area is a series of ponds, land bridges, islands and terraces. There are many places for these young dogs to lose their way. (We will refer to this mark as LF for Left Flyer)

Bird # 2 is a Hen Duck. The gunners for this bird will shoot and then throw the hen from right to left. The hen will land on land approximately 250 yards from the mat. The line to this bird will take the dog down the field to a pond in front of the mat. The dog will swim straight to the bird, which is just past a large dead tree. Once again, there are ways to get there by land and also ways to get lost! (We will refer to this mark as R for Right)

This test is estimated to take approximately 11 minutes per dog to complete.

Good Morning - Day 5

Good Morning Everyone and Welcome to the FINAL Day of the National Derby Championship! 

This morning we are kicking off 10th series of this National. Our test dogs are running and we will begin with our first running dog soon. (Changed to Dog #2 to start!)

The morning has started out with rain and storms, which led to the delay in the parade to the 10th Series this morning. Its cloudy and temps are currently around 58 degrees, with the high today expected to be around 78 degrees. There should be increasingly more sun as the day goes on and wind gusts between 7-13 mph. As always, we will report any changing conditions as the day goes on!

For now, stay tuned as we begin the 10th Series of the National Derby to find out who will become the 2025 National Derby Champion!

29. WBF’S PRIMA DONNA, “Prima,” CLF, Wade Cashion

Prima and Wade came to the line at 5:58 pm

L - Through the pond - out to the middle of the field for a large loop - back to the gunners and to her bird

R - Into the pond - swam parallel to the shore - half way to the point - out and went behind the guns - down to the guns and then made a loop to the bird. Got it.

25. LOUIE OF REDWILLOW, “Louie,” YLM, Naomi Evans

Louie and Naomi came to the line at 5:51 pm

L - Through the pond - angled up the hill - hooked the gunners and came directly around and out to the bird

R - Down the shoreline and got out of the water and straight to the bird!

21. QTK’S MINNESOTA’S HOMETOWN HERO, “Maurer,” YLM, Robbie Knutson

Maurer and Robbie came to the line at 5:46 pm

L - Excellent line across the hill and to his bird

R - Into the pond -swam parallel to the shore - past the point - got out and went straight to his bird

17. MY STAR OF HOPE, “Stella,” BLF, Dana Hoeper

Stella and Dana came to the line at 5:39 pm

L - Out to the bird - very nice!

R - Down the hill and into the big pond - out before the point - ran straight to the bird.

13. HYFLYER’S FOUR ON THE FLOOR, “Rev,” BLM, Randy Spangler

Rev and Randy came to the line at 5:33 pm

L - Small pond - angled up and across the hill - went deep of the guns - back to the guns and hunted behind - circled and got it!

R - Into the big pond - paralleled the shore to the point - got out and ran straight to the bird.

10. PAIRADOC’S BACK IN THE GAME, “Ray,” BLM, Marc Patton

Ray and Marc came to the line at 5:27 pm

R - Hunted behind the guns and worked it out to get his bird.

L - Through the pond and angled up the hill - got to the gunners and went passed them - hunted behind them and then moved deep right - came back to the fall area and his bird

Pick-up 9. CALLBACK’S CASTLE OF HOCKLEY CREEK, “Beckett,” BLF, Wade Cashion

Beckett and Wade came to the line at 5:20 pm

L - Excellent line across the hill through the water and straight to the bird

R - Paralleled the shore for a short distance - guns had to come out to help - dog was picked up

8. HOLYOKE’S CARBON COPY ON THE BAYOU, “Quinn,” BLF, Reid Jones

Quinn and Reid came to the line at 5:12 pm

L - Through the small pond and angled up the hill past the guns - turned back and circled the guns - drove deep multiple times - hunted behind the guns again - finally worked it out and got it

R - Into the big pond - swam parallel to the shore - got out at the point - works down the bank and located the bird

7. OUTBACK’S ALL-OUT GLADIATOR, “Spartacus,” BLM, Robbie Knutson

Spartacus and Robbie came to the line at 5:06 pm

L - Into the small pond - angled across and up the hill  - Smacked it!

R - Swam parallel to the shore - got out before the point - headed up the hill behind the gunners - hunted the area hard - got further away - but finally worked it out and went down to the bird and got it

Hank and Wayne came to the line at 4:59 pm

L - Into the small pond - drove up the hill and nailed it!

R - Into the pond - out on the point - circled the guns and got it

Indy and Louis came to the line at 4:50 pm

L - Into the small pond - angled up the hill - got deep of the guns and hunted - back to the fall area and the bird

R - Into the pond - got out early and went way deep out of sight - dog was picked up
