56. WATERMARK’S KNOCK AND ANNOUNCE, “Rhoda,” BLF, David Cuthbertson

Rhoda and David came to the line at 11:05 am

Down the hill - across the road at the guns - turned right and got it!

Contestant Survey:

When Did you begin competing in Field Trials?

I ran my 1st field trial (a derby) with my dog, Annie, in October 2014.  (Unfortunately we lost her to cancer in October 2024).  I consistently competed in field trials with her and my two other dogs ever since.

What Made you decide to compete in Field Trials?

I "grew up" in the HRC in the 1990s.  When I retired in 2014, I bought Annie to hunt with, but she showed the drive and potential to compete in field trials.  I attended a Pat Burns seminar, where I was introduced to the Russells.  With their encouragement and invitation to train with them, I decided to give it a shot, and here we are 11 years later!

Who are your training partners at home?

I have been blessed with a large number of great training partners, including the John Russell and Robby Bickley group; the Dave Morrison winter group at Pin Oak; and my neighbors, Bill Valladon, Barry Cruikshank, John Shelley, and Mark Edwards.

What is the origin of your dog's name?

Rhoda's registered name, Watermark's Knock and Announce, originated from several things: her sire is FC AFC Watermark's the Boss MH; I was a federal law enforcement agent, and "knock and announce" is what you do before serving a warrant; and Rhoda was a servant girl in the Bible who answered the door when Peter was rescued from the hand of Herod by an angel, and in her joy, she left Peter outside to continue knocking!! (Acts 12:12-17)

Tell us an interesting story about your dog ...

Rhoda is a very unique, intelligent, and structured dog.  When she goes out to air in the morning, she insists on carrying around her favorite bumper while she does her "business".  Of course, when she's done, she will sit on the back patio holding the bumper waiting for me to throw it for her.
